Frank's right: you unbolt the rear of the tank and then lift it up and back this kind of 'unhooks' the tank from the frame, and then you kind of tug the rear of the fuel tank over to the left side of the bike. It doesn't seem like it should do this, but the tank petcock will barely clear the black metal frame. The black frame will get some scratches, but you can't see them when the tank's on the bike anyhow.
Just don't drop the tank on the ground...
